You may recognize a homeschooler or two here . Sometimes I just sip my morning coffee and let gratitude wash over me. Recently, I sent my youngest off to a Hands on History summer program at FA, and she came home on fire.
She pours over books in our family library; she asks questions, she engages her siblings in discussions about ancient times, and shows them the Roman Aqueduct 'puppet' she created for a play. I watch as the teenage sister admires the art work. A fourteen year old brother listens with great patience as she tells him of her day. The oldest brother, a college history major, is more than happy to hear what she has learned. I can see the love of her, the admiration she has for them, in all the faces my children, and I step back. It's nearly too sweet to bear.
Again, I realize that supporting children as they see the whole world is waiting to be discovered anew, is a gift to them beyond measure. It seems a simple thing-- hearing stories of elephants crossing the Alps more than a thousand years ago--but as a child wants to know more and more and more...you know it's your great and honored job to support them and to get out of the way.
